It’s Earth Day today. Some of you might know that my doctoral work is largely focused on environmental impacts and you know what, this whole Earth Day, Earth Hour, Earth Minute, etc. is pretty much crap. When you start looking into those things, you quickly realise that all the ads for the “earth friendly” stuff is interpretation. After “Earth Hour” they had graphics everywhere showing how much energy was saved. They were really impressive up until you actually read the details, everything was scaled so that every single little change looked like a huge drop.
As they say, there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.
I wish I were a hippy who believed in real change. I’m not. I’m a cynic. I think we’ve seen it with the Obamamania and my thoughts on that
In other news, I think I’m coming closer and closer to admiting that perhaps my future is in research. I guess I should first finish my thesis in September 2011. It will be kind of weird to have a PhD before I’m 25 though, really kind of freaky.
