If you want to travel back in time a bit, I definitely would recommend Hotel Boulderado. From the armchairs in the lobby down to the wallpaper all over the place and the brownish tones everywhere.

Semi-finals, baby!

Sorry, that just came out like that. I didn’t watch the game live, I was just following text updates and even then it was rather tense. Heck, for the first time in months I actually heard some decent noise from my neighbours and by that I mean that they shouted three times… no loud commentary, nothing like that. Have I ever mentioned that I love this ‘hood and my building?

I still think that sports where there are more than two “sides” are easier to deal with. In cycling you’ve got at least half a dozen contenders, in triathlons you’ve got a wide pool at each race, etc. Less, “omg, stop with the back-and-forth already”.

Anywho, in the world of related things, here’s something that made me smile a while back:

Dear world, I am in love. In love with my new bike. Yes, I caved in and finally got a bike worthy of decent-length weekend rides (all in the hopes that my PhD will be over and done with soon and I’ll be able to enjoy long rides all the time, possibly even in the evenings and not just weekends). It’s not even that good of a bike, it’s an entry-level road bike but it is amazing nonetheless because it is mine and it is shiny and sparkly (a shade called “midnight blue” and it really does sparkle) and if this is what riding a decent road bike feels like, riding a 2Ke road bike must feel like flying.

And so my latest theory is that whenever someone refers to the feeling of riding a unicorn, I’m sure that they actually mean riding on a good road bike.

This morning’s ride was slow, I’m still adjusting, but so satisfying. My legs felt so light! On the Helkama the same ride would have left my legs dead!

The problem with bike rides though is that one actually has to get off the bike to take decent photos… not that it helped me today, I couldn’t even get a good shot of the whole bike in. Oh well, we all have days like that.

For the moment I am sticking with these Japan-made pedals, the clip-on pedals will come later… eventually. Maybe. Depending what the primary use of the bike will be.

See the sparkles? So shiny, right? And you can see that Boardman has taken a leaf out of Apple’s book… design in the UK but doesn’t say where it was made.

The general look, I’ll probably still adjust the saddle height later though.

Just one of those discoveries that pay off.

Y’all know what better than prunes and green tea? Green tea prunes!

So perhaps that’s not really true but those things were still pretty awesome.

~~I will restrain from trying to infuse prunes with green tea at home. This is possibly a fun experiment to try at home but I have a feeling that I would greatly mess up.~~

Disclosure of the afternoon: I have never seen The Shinning. Ever. I actually have not seen plenty of what many others consider to be cult films. I make up for that by being able to recite plenty of lines from good old soviet films!

Still, apparently in The Shinning there is a Stanley Hotel in which some memorable scenes happen and that hotel happens to be close to Este Park and our group happened to have a fan of The Shinning in it, therefore we made a quick pit stop there before heading off to the airport and back to Finland.
